If youre watching this listing you probably already know: this is the rare 8 element version of the Super-Takumar 50mm f/1.4 M42 screw mount. There are different ways to recognize a true 8 element version. The red infrared bar needs to be on the right of the 4. The M/A switch has A and M markings instead of MAN and AUTO.

Even if a Takumar has the the correct red bar and A/M switch, somebody might have put the 7 element optical group in a 8 element barrel, so the only way to be really sure of a Takumar being 8 element is to check the rear element: if it protrudes when the lens is focused at infinity, its a real 8 element (see pics 1 2 8 9 11). There are other variations among all the 8 elements Takumar: earlier one, like the one you see here, have a different (and bigger) font for the aperture ring (recognizable by the closed 4 versus the later open 4; and by the straight 6): theyre even rarer. So this is one of the rarest version of an already quite rare lens. Original front cap COSMETIC Please check pictures: there are signs of use on the barrel. Conditions are not bad for a lens 50+ years old.

The threads of the mount and filter ring are ok with no damages. Normal for a lens this age, there are visible specs of dust which do not impact shooting results. Front element is in nice conditions, with no major marks/scratches.

REAR ELEMENT HAS TWO VISIBLE LONG SCRATCHES. Plus some other minor scratch (see pics 1 2 3 and 9).

I have two other Takumar 8 elements (one for sale, one for personal use): I did side-by-side comparisons of the three lenses shooting with my Fuji X-T3 the same scene (landscape at near infinity) on tripod at all apertures and I couldnt see any difference between the three lenses. I took some pictures with strong light sources in the frame as well and I couldnt see anything weird going on with flare. F you need more pictures to evaluate them dont hesitate to ask. Very nice, smooth: typical Takumar Aperture ring: snappy, it clicks well and stops at all apertures.

General: no loose parts, no plays, a pleasure to use. The manual/auto aperture pin, when pressed down, doesnt spring back into its position.

It works, but if you want to take it out again youll need a pair of pliers or long nails. I have other lenses for sale: if you're interested in a bundle sale, please contact me and we can work out a deal.
