Antique french lens from 1856, this Alexis Gaudin Portrait Petzval is in well preserved condition according its age. Alexis Gaudin was one of the the first french opticians with interest for daguerrean photography. He was associated with Lerebours at the turn of mid 1800's. The barrel is engraved A. This lens is definitely a great find for collectors of early french photography.Brass barrel wears a lot of rusty spots. Glasses are complete (with one very small chip on the edge of rear glass, and one very small separation spot on the edge of front achromat). Glasses are pencil handwrtitten with digits and symbol. Rack & pinion focusing system works as it should. Body has a waterhouse slot (no waterstop is included). Lenshood, mounting flange and leather front cap are included. Diameter at mounting thread: 72mm. External diameter of flange: 110mm.
